Into the Land
A look at everyday life, work, and communities in rural Costa Rica.
Over several decades, Francisco Coto traveled throughout Costa Rica, photographing people within the places where their lives unfolded. Families, workers, fishermen, and children appear connected to their homes, communities, livelihoods, and landscapes. Image by image, Coto built an intimate portrait of everyday life and, as art historian María Enriqueta Guardia observed, "a study of his time" that extends beyond straightforward documentation.
